Roy J. Shlemon Mentor Program in Applied Geology Fund

The purpose of the Roy J. Shlemon Mentor Program in Applied Geology Fund is to support and promote the study of Quaternary geology and geomorphology, with particular emphasis on the application and utilization of these sectors of geology to improve domestic habitation, industry siting, and resource utilization; to remediate existing environmental and engineering problems; and to better generally the relationship between Earth and its growing population. The Fund will facilitate the interchange of ideas and technology between Mentors (practicing scientists, research scientists, academia) and advanced undergraduate and graduate students, and will encourage students to pursue careers as practitioners in applied Quaternary geology and geomorphology. The goal of these Mentors is to provide information and insight based on their own careers. These programs are held exclusively at GSA Section Meetings. The income from the Fund will be administered to support special programs and activities such as forums, seminars, short courses, lecture series, research grants, awards, publications, field trips, and the Institute for Environmental Education.
