John C. Wise

Mr. Wise recently retired with 30 years of senior level experience at the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). He served as the Deputy Regional Administrator, Region 9, with jurisdiction over CA, AZ, NV, HI, and the Pacific Islands. He provided executive leadership and overall management to a workforce of 1,000 employees.

John possesses extensive knowledge and experience in the US system of environmental regulation and enforcement. He pioneered new entrepreneurial initiatives for regulatory innovation and championed the use of sustainable business practices for improved environmental performance. He is experienced in the art of collaborative dialogues and stakeholder engagement processes; he served as a principal member of the Aspen Institute’s “Series on the Environment in the 21st Century”; and as a founding member of the California Environmental Dialogue (CED).

Today he serves as a Board member of Save the Bay and EPA’s Environmental Financial Advisory Board. He earned a BS in Civil Engineering and Business Finance at the University of Colorado, and an MS in Water Resources Management at Stanford.
